Five Major Associations Join Congressional Family Business Caucus in Support of Family Businesses, America’s Largest Private Employer
Associated Equipment Dealers, National Federation of Independent Business, American Farm Bureau Federation, National Restaurant Association, Air Conditioning Contractors of America are Latest to Join Caucus Aimed at Understanding the Challenges of Family Businesses
The bipartisan Congressional Family Business Caucus has new five major associations joining it in support of America’s largest private employer, family businesses.
The associations are the Associated Equipment Dealers, National Federation of Independent Business, American Farm Bureau Federation, National Restaurant Association, and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America.
The Congressional Family Business Caucus, formed late last year, has held three meetings to date in the U.S. Capitol. Its core mission is to raise awareness on the importance of family businesses to the economy and to address critical issues facing family businesses, from unfair taxation to workplace development to penalizing regulations.
Family businesses are the largest private employers in the country, accounting for 83.3 million jobs, or 59 percent of the country’s private workforce, and contributes $7.7 trillion in GDP annually to the economy, according to research.
The four co-chairs of the bipartisan Caucus are Jodey Arrington (R-TX), Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL), Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX).
Since its start in December 2022, the Caucus has seen an 33 Congressional members join from both sides of the political aisle sign on to the group.
The addition of these new associations represents a strong cross-section of the U.S. family-owned business workforce, according to Pat Soldano, President, Family Enterprise USA and the Policy and Taxation Group, both bipartisan advocates for family business. Both are based here.
Associated Equipment Dealers has more than 500 dealer members and is an international trade association representing the interests of the equipment industry. It represents companies that sell, rent and service equipment used in many applications, including construction, agriculture, forestry, energy, mining, material handling and industrial production.
National Federation of Independent Business is the voice of small business, advocating on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners, both in Washington, D.C., and in all 50 state capitals.
The American Farm Bureau Federation has some 5.9 million member families, consisting of farmers, ranchers, and affiliated farm-based insurance providers. In addition, it represents 2,800 county farm bureaus.
The National Restaurant Association represents more than 40,000 members who own or operate restaurants, or some 500,000 restaurant businesses.
The Air Conditioning Contractors of America consists of 3,000 members employing 60,000 air conditioning professionals and are recognized as industry leaders.
“The addition of these major associations, representing a broad spectrum of America’s family-owned businesses, demonstrate the growing support for the mission of the Congressional Family Business Caucus,” said Soldano. “We urge more to get involved and join the Caucus, so they understand the full scope and size of family businesses in this country, and challenges they face every day to continue growing their businesses,” she said. “Family business is big business and our leaders must understand how important they are to our economy.”
