Policy and Taxation Group’s advocacy efforts in 2025 protected family-owned businesses from harmful tax changes and advanced policies that sustain growth across generations. Through our education efforts with Congress, we made the 37% top income tax rate and the 20% Section 199A deduction permanent, increased the estate tax exemption to $15 million per person, and prevented hikes in the capital gains rate. We restored R&D expensing and bonus depreciation, preserved Like-Kind Exchanges, and stopped new wealth tax and surtax proposals. Importantly, valuation discounts, grantor trusts, and the step-up in basis, all vital to family business succession, were safeguarded. These accomplishments reflect the power of a united family owned business voice in Washington and the continued importance of our mission: ensuring fairness, stability, and opportunity for every family owned business in America.
